Whether you're selling single units or bundled packs, Odoo 18 allows businesses to define multiple packaging types per product and use them throughout the sales, inventory, and delivery processes.

Let’s explore how to set up and use this functionality effectively.

Step 1. Setting Up Product Packages.

   1.  Go to the Inventory -> Configuration -> Settings

   2.  In the Inventory settings under operations user can enable the “Packages”

   3. Save the configuration settings.


Step 2. Create New Package

    4. Once the "Packages" option is enabled in Settings, the feature will appear under the "Products" menu in the Inventory module.

    5. Open the section and click the "New" button to create a package.

   6. The configuration form includes "Package Reference," where users can choose a Package Type, Shipping Weight, set the Company and Location and see the Pack Date.

Step 3. Creating a Delivery Order

    7. The 'Deliveries dashboard displays a list of all delivery orders

    8.  Go to the Inventory module > Operations > Deliveries

     9. Click "New" to create a delivery order and fill in key details. 

     10. Add products under the "Operations" tab, then update info as needed.

     11. In the "Operations" section, include a package. Click "Mark as Todo" to confirm.

 

    12. A "Packages" smart button then links to the package. details, also available in the Inventory module under the Packages menu.

   

Activate the Packaging Feature:

  1. Go to Inventory > Configuration > Settings.

  2. Under the Products section, enable Product Packaging.

  3. Click Save.

   4. This will enable packaging options on product forms.

Step 2: Define Product Packaging

    5. Navigate to Inventory > Products > Products.

    6. Open or create a product.

    7.  Scroll down to the Inventory tab.

    8. In the Packaging section, click Add a Line.

    9. Enter the following:

  • Package Type: e.g., Box, Pallet, Carton

  • Quantity per Package: e.g., 6 units per box

  • Barcode (optional): for scanning during delivery

  • Package Weight & Dimensions: if relevant for logistics

   10. Click Save once the packaging is defined.

Step 3: Use Packaging in Sales Orders

    11. Go to Sales > Orders > Quotations.

    12. Create a new quotation and add a product with defined packaging.

    13. Under the product line, choose the desired Packaging from the dropdown (if available).

     14. Confirm the quotation to create a Sales Order.



     15. Odoo will automatically calculate the packaging quantity needed based on the order quantity and packaging configuration.

Step 4: Delivery and Packaging Integration

     16. Go to the related Delivery Order under Inventory.

     17. On the picking screen, you will see the packaging reflected.

    18. If you have barcode or shipping integrations, the packaging data will be used during scanning and labeling.



    19. This ensures accurate packaging details are sent to shippers or used internally.
